Rib Stitching 101
Some Chapter 54 members met on a cold Saturday morning in January to rib
stitch the fabric to the wings on Paul Liedl's KitFox Outback.
Bill Schanks spent some time teaching Paul and others how to tie the special
knot, and then Paul and Bill tied knots while Jerry Sarraco and Bob Waldron
returned the needles. Loud Mexican music was heard by all, and enjoyed by
Bill.
Due to a late start and a long lunch, we did not finish the wings until
Sunday morning.
Here Mr. Bill shows Al Kupferschmidt and Dave Fiebiger how to tie the modified
sein knot. Jerry S. is behind the wing.
Here is Jerry, prior to Coffee break. He is deliberately looking away from
the wing so that Bill will have to holler "Jerry, return the needle".
Jerry tries to find the correct hole to return the needle. Remarkable, no
needles were lost. Also, no eyes were lost, although Bob temporarily lost
his glasses.
This is the magic knot that Bill has taught at the EAA Air Academy for
fifteen years.
This is a mouse eye view of the results. What an excellent job. EAA
is about education and entertainment, and this is part of the education.
Paul has one more task completed on the KitFox, and it was done well. Nice
Job, Paul.
